A 6-week class focusing on traditional pen and ink technique. Students will work to create drawings of scenes from the Gardens. Intermediate level.
From Instructor Derek Norman:
Drawing in pen & ink can be a daunting task for many but the rewards, however, can be highly satisfying.
The basis of this studio class is designed for beginning and intermediate students (and for those who wish to take their skills to a higher level). It will be devoted to the practice of classic pen and ink technique as it relates to botanical drawing and composition. In both black & white and color.
Learn the fundamentals of sound linear and tonal concepts of plant perspective, value, depth, dimension and design. Working on a variety of different hot and cold press papers students will be encouraged to work using both a crow quill (dip pen) and a technical drawing pen.
Current and historical examples of classic botanical pen and ink drawings will be studied in conjunction with on-going class exercises.
