Zenobia pulverulenta 'Woodlander's Blue'
- $ 12.00 $ 12.00
Zenobia pulverulenta is a highly-prized, but little-known monotypic (only one) shrub in the blueberry family that is native to the Carolinas and just into Virginia. In the wild, zenobia can be found growing in full sun to part shade, where it resides with Sabal minor palms in soggy to moist, but well-drained sandy, acidic soils. These 4' tall blueberry-like woody plants are clothed in leaves that are typically green, but this amazing selection discovered by Woodlander's Bob McCartney, has powder blue foliage. In spring, the airy clumps are topped with 2' long pendant racemes of small white bells. In fall, the foliage turns scarlet before becoming compost...truly superb!
