AN INTRODUCTION TO PAINTING IN OILS. An introduction to painting in oil color is a class designed to familiarize the student with the basic materials and the fundamental principles of painting in oil color.
From the consideration and purchase of canvas, paints, brushes to their best practice, the course will progress to study application, technique and use. In addition the study of color and color theory will be presented, as well as the practice of the six color palette. Further focus will be on the do’s and don’ts of working with various mediums and primers. There will be a simultaneous passing glance at the historic trends and traditions of fine oil painting including landscape, still life painting, portraiture and abstraction. The student will gain an understanding of the merits of working in oil as opposed to watercolor, and the watercolor mediums of acrylic and gouache.
Please Note: This class will be held at the expanded MBG Magnolia Hill Studio. A teaching pavilion ideal for the practice and presentation of an oil painting class. (The wearing of masks and social distancing will be observed). The class will be held on Friday afternoons from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Commencing 25th September, to the 6th November (skipping Friday,16th October - The Garden’s Fall Plant Sale).
