In the visual arts, composition plays a principal role in determining the relative success or failure of any give work of art, yet is tends to be a subject that is somewhat overlooked as a major component of the creative process. This class is designed to bring the importance of composition front and center! The class will study historical examples of composition for spatial concepts (negative and positive), theories of scale, color, texture and perspective, etc. Emphasis will be placed on class exercises that study plant specimens that compositionally will challenge the creative mind in new and unexpected ways. Class exercises will be rendered and executed in a rough exploratory form to place the emphasis on composition.
